Cosmetic surgery is no more an exclusive zone for women. Thanks to the Bollywood incarnation of metrosexual male, the desire for six-pack abs, biceps and triceps are driving many men in the city to go under the knife. Men are now queuing up at various cosmetic surgeons’ clinics, wishing

for a designer moustache, wrinkle-free facial skin or other such treatments.

“The look-enhancement treatment is becoming popular among males. Majority of them come for tightening of skin or breast reduction. The other popular trend is to have six-pack abs,” said Dr Rakesh Khazanchi, director of the Department of Plastic Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at Medanta Hospital.

He said many youngsters prefer liposuction to get the perfect shape and they don’t mind paying R50,000 for the treatment.

“The ratio of males and females opting for cosmetic treatments has reached 50:50. Some times people ask for unrealistic transformation which is not possible,” said Dr Vipul Nanda, consultant, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Artemis Health Institute.

According to Dr Nanda, majority of men in the age group of 20-25 are inspired from Bollywood. Some of them are conscious about signs of aging such as wrinkles and eye bags.

“Most of the males are inspired by Bollywood and the fashion industry. We give them a body that they can flaunt but that is not real. It is only an illusion that we create,” he said.

But, the cost doesn’t matter for those who want to retain the youthful look.

“What’s wrong in it? We cannot blame anybody for whatever looks we got. But if facilities are available, then why should we not avail it. The treatment is not that much expensive too,” said 32-year-old Jatin Kashyap (name changed), who was waiting to undergo skin-tightening treatment at a clinic.
